“Randy captures the essence of “authentic” country music without working up a sweat. His music has swagger with substance, twang with meaning. You’re gonna’ love Randy Thompson. He understands what it takes to make authentic country music that’s special.” Those are the words of Vintage Guitar magazine after the 2004 release of his third and most ambitious album That’s Not Me. The album was met with a bevy of critical acclaim and a consequent flood of “I’m gonna make you a star” record business jive talk. Promoters, labels and agents lined up smelling financial blood in the water. Whether shrouded in naiveite or just hoping that someone was telling the truth Randy Thompson traded a small fortune for the chance to get his craft out to the people. Disill- usionment followed. It’s natural. Randy Thompson is not alone as this story has chapters written all the back to the beginnings of popular music. He kept his head up and kept moving forward inspite of the experience. There are lessons to be learned from those mistakes and when we sat down to speak with Randy on the eve of the release of Further On, it seems he has learned from them and come out of it as a stronger, smarter and better musician. He’s a genuine nice guy, a hell of a writer and a gifted player...it’s all good from here. Click To Read The Interview...
