Soft spoken, distinguished, educated, intense...those are words one might conjur up after a meeting with Tres Womack. The intensity is aresult of the pursuit of perfection combined with the talent to pull it off. A deadly combination in the right hands. On the heels of the recently released ‘Freak Show’, we sat down with Tres to discuss his record, a musical upbringing and a colorful life. ‘Freak Show’ is a well crafted, tight record that will draw references to The Band, Skynyrd...even The Eagles in some spots. It’s a collection of mature and intelligent songs both musically and lyrically. It’s also southern without being all about high and lonesome. Rock and Roll like we all think they “used to make” and wish they would again. Not much makes us harken back to the 70’s other than the music but if ‘Freak Show’ were a 70’s southern rock album it would most assuredly have seeds and stems in the crease of the double lp gatefold.


MEDIA GUIDE: There are so many different styles and influences on “Freak Show”, it has a ‘rootsy’ feel. What comes to mind when you think of Roots Music?

TRES: When I first started hearing the classification “Roots” it meant songs I couldn’t hear or find on the radio…songs and albums that were inspired and not just written…it took some work to find work from an artist that fell into the genre, i.e. Townes…so, to make a long answer longer, non-commercial music. The coolest part of this story is that the future is “roots” and labels, venues, and PD’s are starting to figure
